What will you learn in the Dutch A0-A1 (Beginner) course?
- The Dutch alphabet, numbers, colours, basic spelling and pronunciation
- Articles: 'een', 'de' and 'het'
- How to introduce yourself and briefly talk about yourself, your daily routine and describe someone
- Answer questions about the time
- How to conjugate verbs and create simple sentences
- Rules about adjectives, their gradation and plural forms
- How to use the imperative form: give commands
- How to react to a proposal and make suggestions

- Basics of past tenses: Perfectum and Imperfectum
- How to describe your work, studies and hobbies
- Use of reflexive verbs and their conjugations
- How to use conjunctions: hoewel, omdat, zodat, zodra, voordat, nadat, toen, als, etc.
- The correct use of the words 'er' and 'daar' and the construction 'zullen' (future tense and making promises) in sentences

About Our Courses

You will see the teacher, the course materials and other course participants on the screen of your computer, tablet or phone. At Level Up Academy, we focus on practical language learning. Everyone takes an active part in the lessons. At any time during the class, you can ask the teacher for an explanation if needed.
Before the class, you will receive a link to the virtual class in the Zoom program, which you use throughout the course. In our classes, we use books (for example Nederlands in gang for courses A0-A1 and A1-A2), Quizlet online flashcards, materials about Dutch culture (beginner level). You also receive English translations of the words from the textbook in the Quizlet program, materials and presentations for each class. You also receive additional tasks to complete yourself every week. All presentations, materials and extra tasks can be found in one place, your virtual classroom in Padlet.

If you want to learn Dutch from scratch, we recommend you take a group or individual course level A0-A1 (Level 1).
Dutch language levels follow the CEFR framework, ranging from A1 (beginner) to C2 (proficient). At Level Up Academy, we offer group courses from A0 (absolute beginner) to B2 and individual lessons up to C2, guiding students step by step in developing their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Our courses take place via the Zoom platform. You can use Zoom on desktop, tablet and mobile devices. In order to use all functionalities of Zoom and maximise participation in the classes, we recommend downloading Zoom onto your laptop or computer.
Participating in our courses you will receive:
- A PDF presentation for each class.
- Custom made flashcards based on class material in Quizlet, a program that helps you study new vocabulary and phrases.
- Extra exercises provided after each weekly lesson.
- Materials about Dutch culture (beginners course only: A0-A1).
There are 5 to 9 students participating in a group course. Based on our experience, this is the optimal group size to help you get the most out of the class, engage with other students and motivate each other.
The time it takes to learn Dutch depends on your starting level, learning pace, and amount of practice. With regular lessons and immersion, beginners (A0) can reach A2 in a few months, while reaching B2 may take a year or more. At Level Up Academy, we offer structured courses to help you progress efficiently.
